54 Hole Challenge at Innisbrook
On Thursday, February 18, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Palm Harbor, FL to host the 54 Hole Challenge at Innisbrook at the beautiful Innisbrook Resort. The weather on Saturday started out sunny and bright but as soon as 1:00pm hit, so did the storm. After a 45 minute long storm delay the players returned to their holes. The sun came out and stayed out for the remaining days. The HJGT would like to thank the staff at Innisbrook for allowing us to host our tournament at such an amazing venue. AJGA stars were up for grabs this weekend: Boys 14-18 Champion received 4 Performance Stars, Boys 14-18 Top 5 received 1 Performance Star, Girls 14-18 Champion received 4 Performance Stars, and Girls 14-18 Top 3 received 1 Performance Star. It was an amazing experience to watch these junior golfers finish this 54 hole golf challenge strong.
Boys 16-18 Division
Pieter DeGroot from Potomac , MD is the Boys 16-18 champion. DeGroot shot a 71 in the first round to grab the early lead. Round 2 he shot a 74 finishing again with an impressive 71 for a total of 216. David Hu of Bradenton FL, came in 2nd with a total of 219 (76,70,73) There was a tie for 3rd between John Mosher of Wesley Chapel, FL and Celeb Davern of Grove City OH. Mosher finished with 75,74,74 – and Davern finished with 76,73,74 – both totaling at 223 . Each junior golfer navigated the challenging course well and gave their all against some of the best junior golfers in the country.
Boys 14-15 Division
Henry May of Edina MN is the champion of the Boys 14-15 Division. Consistency was key for May finishing three rounds (78, 79, 74) for a total of 231. 2nd place was awarded to Brett Reid of Spicer MN, completing the 54 hole challenge with a 232 (79, 78, 75). Zikang Zhan of Valley Stream NY, placed a close 3rd with a 233 total (83,77,73). Despite the long, strenuous conditions each player finished with smiles on their faces and devotion in their hearts.
Boys 11-13 Division
Louie Liu of Bradenton, FL is the Boys 11-13 champion. Louie closed the challenged with a 237 (81, 82, 74). Jack Dumas of La Claire, IA posted a total of 241 (81, 76, 84) over the three rounds to finish alone in 2nd place. Whisty Collins of Wellington, FL who shot a total of 242 (80, 81, 81) for all three rounds. The boys had a fun time navigating through the course and showed maturity beyond their years in taking on its many challenges.
Girls 14-18 Division
Maisie Filler of Palm Beach Gardens, FL is the Girls 14-18 champion. Maisie charged hard, closing with a 74 in the final round ending the Innisbrook 54 Hole Challenge with a 234 (83, 77, 74). Finishing in 2nd from Independence, OH was Sophia Trombetta, who finished with a total of 243. Awarded 3rd place was Cosette Anderson who kept close on the scoreboard at 244. The ladies each enjoyed their experience immensely, while competing against the top competitors in the region.
Girls U13 Division
Kokoro Ouchi is the Girls 13 and under champion. Ouchi of Bradenton, FL emerged from a clustered first round leaderboard, posting a final round of 233 (80, 73, 80). Finishing 2nd and 3rd are the Lombardo sisters. Placing in second with totals of 256 for all three rounds was Guilia Lombardo (89, 83, 84) of Bradenton, FL. Following her sister in 3rd is Ottavia Lombardo finishing with a 266 (96, 88, 82). The girls displayed tremendous fortitude and sharpness while trekking through the difficult course layout in the Florida heat.
