North Florida Jr. Shootout
at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club
This weekend the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Jacksonville, FL to host the North Florida Jr. Shootout at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club. A varying array of temperatures accompanying the tournament members. The HJGT would like to thank the Eagle Harbor Golf Club for letting us host our tournament at such an exquisite course. There was a lot to play for at this tournament. Up for grabs was Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and the top three in each division receive exemption into both the 2017 National Championships in Dec 2-3 and the mid-season invitational at Sea Island Plantation June 11-13.
Boys 16-18 Division
Drew Doyle from Louisville, KY was the boys 16-18 champion after tying and winning the shootout between two other players. Drew posted a 74 through the first round and a 71 through the second round. Lorenzo Elbert Jr. from East Point, FL and Logan Underwood both were awarded second place after the shootout. They both shot a 145 through both rounds. Overall, spectators should expect to see this trio battle it out for the lead in many tournaments to come.
Boys 14-15 age Division
James Ballato from Fernandina Beach, FL was awarded the boys 14-15 champion after shooting an impressive par 72 first round and an even more impressive 70 in the second round. Zikang Zhan from Valley Stream, FL was awarded second place after scoring 144 through both rounds. Jake Davis from Gainsville, FL and Cam Tankersly from Dickson, TN tied for third place after they both posted a 150 through the two rounds. The Boys 14-15 Division provided us with some impressive golf, and these scores don’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
Girls 14-18 Division
Ayanna Habeel from Decatur, GA was the girls 14-18 champion after orchestrating an 80 through the first round and a 78 through the second round. Sara McKevitt was awarded second place after scoring 159 through both rounds. Celeste Valinho from Ponte Vedra Beach and Luwei Lu were both awarded third place after both posting 166 through both rounds. Overall, these girls battled the entire tournament for a spot at the top. Fans should anticipate many more tightly contested rounds from these players.
Boys 11-13 Division
Tiger Christensen from Hamburg, DE was the boys 11-13 champion after jumping out to an impressive 70 on the first round and a steady 80 through the second round. Landon Buckanaga from Albertville, MN was awarded second place after scoring 162 through both rounds. Andrew McLauchlan from Neptune Beach, FL was awarded third place after finishing with a 163 through both rounds. The Boys 11-13 Division provided us with a glimpse of what the future holds for these young players. Expect to see these boys atop the leaderboard many times moving forward.
Jack Roberts from St. Mary’s, GA was the boys 10U champion after managing a 75 through the first round and matching that again through the second round. Robert Stephens from St. Simmons Island, GA was awarded second place after finishing with a 165 through both rounds. Jackson Byrd was awarded third place after posting a 173 through both rounds. Overall, these boys played their hearts out, and moving forward, look out for many more exciting events from these youngsters.
Minny Byun from Bradenton, FL was crowned the girls 13U champion after securing an 82 through the first round and an 81 through the second round. Menglu Zhu from Bradenton, FL was awarded second place after shooting a 171 through both rounds. Jiayi Chen from Bradenton, FL was awarded third place after finishing with a 180 though both rounds. As the field continues to grow, these three names should be on everyone’s radar.
