San Francisco Junior Shootout
April 15th & 16th, 2017
On Thursday, April 13th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour arrived in Petaluma, CA to host the San Francisco Junior Shootout, which took place at Rooster Run Golf Club. Seventy-eight junior golfers arrived early on Saturday morning ready to battle the weather and the very difficult course. The tournament consisted of six divisions: Boys 16-18, Girls 14-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 13 and Under and Boys 10 and Under. The entire tournament field was battle tested against a course that contained lightning fast greens and countless hazards. Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings were on the line for the Boys 16-18, Girls 14-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 13 and Under Divisions. AJGA stars were available for the Girls 14-18 Division.
Boys 16-18 Division
The Boys 16-18 Division consisted of twelve golfers. All twelve competitors were ready to shoot their best and the entire division was within 11 strokes at the end of day one. Day two brought poor weather conditions and lower scores were difficult to shoot. There was a chilling breeze, that was compounded with the never-ending rain that the entire tournament endured all day. These factors made for a challenging course, but at the end of the tournament Alex Lin sat atop the leaderboard. Alex posted rounds of 73 and 78, which totaled 151 and a tournament victory for Alex. We would like to congratulate Alex not only on his win, but on receiving an invitation to our National Championship this December in Orlando, FL. Coming in second place was Jackson Crawford, who shot rounds of 76 and 78, for a total of 154. Jackson welcomed the rain and matched Alex’s score on the second day and made this a close finish! Lastly, receiving the third-place trophy was Ethan Manalo. Ethan too shot a 78 on the second day, which made this an even tighter finish. Ethan finished with a total score of 156 and was consistent on both days, given both weather conditions. We would like to thank all the competitors in this division for competing with us this weekend and we hope to see them again soon.
Boys 14-15 Division
The Boys 14-15 Division consisted of eleven golfers, who were ready to take on a very challenging course, given the conditions. Collin Yee won the division and did this by posting two great rounds. Collin shot a 72 on the first day and an 80 on the second day, for a two-day total of 152. Given the course conditions and lighting fast greens, shows the adaptability that Collin showed in his performance this weekend. Collin’s distance off the tee helped him greatly too, being able to take off large chunks of distance that others could not. Coming in second place was Moses Greene, who posted rounds of 76 and 80, for a total of 156. Moses also played well in the cold and rainy weather, in route to a solid performance this weekend. We would like to thank all the golfers for playing with us this weekend and we wish them luck in their future tournaments.
Girls 14-18 Division
The Girls 14-18 Division had thirty-one junior golfers who came out and competed this weekend. AJGA stars were at stake this weekend and all the competitors were ready to take advantage of this opportunity. Coming in first place was Sammy Lee. Sammy posted a 78 on the first day, but shot the low round of the tournament on the second day by posting a 70! Shooting two under in the unfavorable weather is a remarkable round. These fantastic scores put her at the top of the division and with this victory, she receives an invitation to our National Championship this December in Orlando, FL. Finishing in second place was Saga Traustadottir, who had a first round score of 76 and improved that score to a 73 on the second day. This strong finished propelled her into second place and some momentum to carry with her in her next event. Saga is from Iceland and we would like to thank her for coming and playing with us this weekend. Third place was shared by four ladies. Angela Bagasbas, Annie Liu, Carissa Wu and Lauryn Nguyen all posted total scores of 151. We would like to thank each golfer who participated this weekend and we wish them the best of luck in their future tournaments.
Boys 11-13 Division
The Boys 11-13 Division had eight golfers who participated with us this weekend. These boys were fun to watch and they each competed well! At the end of the tournament, Drew Kim was in first place. Drew posted rounds of 75 and 74, which gave him a total of 149. Drew is a very powerful young golfer and he posted a highly impressive second round by shooting two over. Coming in second place was Darren Pang, who shot a 78 on the first day, then an even par 72 on the second day! It was great to see these golfers improve their scores on the second day and it was such a difficult task given the conditions. Along with Drew, Darren is a powerful golfer with the ability to put the ball long down the fairway. Thank you to all the golfers who came and participated with us this weekend.
Girls 13U Division
The Girls 13 and Under division had thirteen young golfers and they very impressive to watch on the course. Coming in first place was Hannah Harrison, who had rounds of 73 and 76. This is a familiar place for Hannah, as she came in first place in our tournament that took place last month in Sacramento. Hannah played very well in the rain and sank a 30-foot putt on 17 to help seal her victory! Coming in second place was Alice Liu, who posted rounds of 75 and 77. Alice is another young and promising golfer that has unlimited potential. She is very creative around the green and has a great sense of touch on her short game. Coming in third place was Ellie Bushnell. Ellie had rounds of 72 and 84. Ellie played great this entire weekend, but she just got caught up with the unfavorable weather conditions on the second day. She is a very talented golfer and she will only continue to improve and we look forward to her competing with us in the future!
Boys 10U Division
The Boys 10 and Under division consisted of four junior golfers. Two of the four were familiar faces and we were happy to meet the new competitors, Micah and Nicholas! Coming in first place was Eden Cui, who had rounds of 76 and 81. Eden is a very good young golfer and he also has fun on the course. He was very energetic and involved with his competitors in a great way. Coming in second place was Aditya Das, who had rounds of 83 and 77. Aditya has played with us numerous times this year and he continues to impress us on the course with his ability. We would like to thank all four golfers for playing with us and we hope to see them play with us soon.
